What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are one of the easiest and quickest cosmetic solutions that can offer you the bright smile you desire. They are very useful for fixing problems like misshapen teeth, chipped teeth, and for reducing gaps between teeth.

According to the American Dental Association, veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are glued to the front of your teeth and are usually manufactured in a dental laboratory by a technician based on a model provided by your dentist.

At Amaya Dental in Miami and Pembroke Pines, Florida, we specialize in dental veneers and other cosmetic dentistry procedures that can enhance your smile. Read on to find out what different types of veneers we offer and how they are applied.

What Are the Different Types of Veneers Available?

Two types of veneers are more prevalent in the field of cosmetic dentistry. These are porcelain veneers and composite resin veneers.

Let’s take a closer look at the differences between them:

How Are Veneers Applied?

The process of applying veneers usually takes one or two visits to the dental office depending on the solution you choose.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the procedure:

  • After prepping you, our dentists will remove some of the enamel and take impressions of your teeth.
  • For porcelain veneers, the impressions are sent to a laboratory where technicians will custom make veneers based on the measurements they received. Composite resin veneers can be done chairside.
  • Composite resin veneers are fitted during your first visit. For porcelain veneers, one of our dentists can fix a temporary set if required and you will be fitted with the permanent ones on a subsequent visit, when they are ready.
