Initial Conversation

The first step is to schedule an appointment to discuss your teeth whitening needs with your dentist. Together, you will decide if teeth whitening is suitable for your situation. If this treatment suits your unique needs, your dentist will create an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve a whiter smile.

Custom Trays

Once you decide on the teeth whitening option that’s most appropriate for your situation, digital impressions of your teeth will be taken using trays and then sent to a dental lab. Custom trays will be developed according to your unique specifications.

Aftercare For Whitening

Following a teeth whitening treatment, you can expect increased tooth sensitivity for one or two days, depending on your treatment plan. Your dentist may recommend that you avoid cold or hot food or drinks and will provide pain relievers to help ease the discomfort. Your gums may also appear discolored for some hours after the treatment. However, this is normal, and the discomfort will diminish shortly.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

This option allows you to treat your discolored teeth with a combination of reusable trays and whitening products, all in the comfort and convenience of your home.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

This type is usually conducted by your Miami cosmetic dentist and offers fast, professional results in one visit. In-office whitening can be a great choice if you want to dramatically brighten your smile for a special occasion or event.

Chemical Whitening

Your dentist will use chemicals like hydrogen peroxide to remove stains from your teeth. When peroxide reacts with surface stains, it breaks the bond that keeps stains together, leaving your teeth pearly white.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

How long teeth whitening lasts varies from person to person and will depend on the teeth whitening options used. However, the average whitening effect can last a few months to three years. Note that the whitening results won’t last long if you smoke, drink coffee, or consume anything that can stain your teeth.
